Monterey California offers some of the best cold water diving on the Pacific Coast.

The close proximity to the deep water canyons just off shore make this nutrient-rich water home to some very special creatures.

In Fall and Winter, when the topside conditions permit diving, the water is clear and the diving spectacular. Pinnacles, deep fissures and a very wide variety of marine life make Monterey one of my favorite dive destinations.

  • In Fall (and sometimes in winter) the Sea Nettles concentrate in a huge biomass just off the coast of Momterey and Carmel.
  • Colorful hydrocoral is one of the highlights of Monterey diving. In this shot the coral is reflected in the divers mask as she takes a closer look.
  • Scootering along in shallow water, this diver pauses to take a look at one of the hundreds of Sea Nettles gently puffing along.
  • There are about 50 Sea Nettles in this shot ranging from 4{quote} in diameter to over two-feet in diameter and about twelve-feet long.
  • On a knife edge rock running between two large underwater pinnacles at about 112 feet deep, the diver views two iconic Monterey sea creatures.
  • The diver lights up the bell of this large Sea Nettle with her powerful HID diving light.
