The only thing possibly more liberating than diving with scooter is being able to shed all of your Scuba equipment - tank, regulators, hoses, gauges, most of your weights - and take to flight wearing essentially just a wetsuit.

Freediving is generally done with very long blade fins. The Scooter is providing the propulsion, so short fins are all that's needed for small trim corrections as the Scooter pulls you along.

Without all of the traditional Scuba gear you instantly become more streamlined in the water. This increases your speed significantly. Also - the only sound is the muted "whurrr" of the scooter motor. No more loud bubbles, no more compressed gas.

Fast. Quiet. Liberating.

  • On the surface, a big breath taken, she looks down, eyes the target, focuses and drops in.
  • After the drop from the choppy surface, there is about 90 seconds of freedom before the lungs demand a blast back to the top.
  • Free diving on a sunny summer day.
  • We are very careful to never go into any kelp overheads when freediving. We always have a clear path to the surface.
  • The kelp on this part of Catalina is thick and lush. Full of life as we silently glide by.
  • So fast. The snorkel flaps in the water as we Scoot along. We now pull it off and tuck it under a rash guard or in the sleeve.
